Love or hate? Love and hate

Love or hate? Love and hate

N.T.R.

Are love and hate opposites?

People seem to think so

But if to love is to care, and you need to care to hate, then love and hate aren’t opposites, they are the same.

I know when I love someone, even if “love” seems too big a word to describe my feelings. I care. I care if they are okay, I care for what they do. I would sacrifice minor things for people I love. I can sacrifice my morning coffee, I can sacrifice 5 minutes of my time to talk, to catch up.

I know when I don’t like someone, “hate” seems too big a word to describe my feelings. I care, I care not to see them, I care to avoid them. I would sacrifice a small walk for a longer one if it meant not having to chat. I wouldn’t be the nicest if they spoke to me. They did me wrong, I don’t have to be nice anymore. I don’t want to be nice anymore.

I believe that when you hate someone, it is because you loved them once. You need to care to hate. You need to care to love. They are not opposites, they are just the result of the other.

“Hate” is a strong word, I don’t think I hate someone, even if I say so, I know it’s not true. I do wish I could, though, hate people who hurt me, but they only managed to hurt me because I loved them. I wish I could turn my love into hate. But I can’t, it’s not possible. If you hate someone, why is it? Because you loved them? Because they hurt you? Do you truly hate them??
